Abel
The second son of Adam and Eve, whose righteous sacrifice was accepted by God before his murder by Cain.
Abel was a keeper of sheep who offered the firstborn of his flock to the Lord. Scripture identifies him as the first martyr, noting that his blood speaks of righteousness and faith. His account establishes the theme of divine favor resting upon the humble offering of faith rather than the works of the flesh.
