Old Testament
Adoni-zedek
The Amorite king of Jerusalem who led a coalition of five kings against Gibeon and Joshua.
Adoni-zedek was the king of Jerusalem who formed a military alliance with four other Amorite kings to attack Gibeon after they made peace with Israel. His defeat by Joshua at the battle of Gibeon, where the sun stood still, marked a decisive victory for Israel in the conquest of Canaan. His name, meaning 'my lord is righteousness,' stands in ironic contrast to his opposition to the Lord's chosen people.
