Ishbi-benob

A Philistine giant who attempted to kill King David during a battle in the Valley of Rephaim.

Ishbi-benob was a descendant of the Rephaim who wielded a heavy bronze spear and sought to slay David. His encounter is recorded in 2 Samuel 21:16-17, where he nearly defeated the king before being killed by Abishai. This event prompted David's men to insist he no longer join them in battle to preserve the lamp of Israel.
