Matthew
A tax collector called by Jesus to be one of the twelve apostles and author of the Gospel of Matthew.
Also known as Levi, Matthew was a tax collector in Capernaum when Jesus called him to follow Him. His immediate response and subsequent hosting of a feast for Jesus highlight the radical nature of grace and the call to repentance. As an apostle, he served as an eyewitness to the ministry, death, and resurrection of Christ.
