New Testament
Annas
A powerful former High Priest who exerted significant influence over the Jewish religious leadership.
Annas served as High Priest from 6 to 15 AD and remained a dominant political and religious figure long after his formal removal. He is significant for his role in the trials of Jesus, who was brought to him first for interrogation before being sent to his son-in-law, Caiaphas. Later, he appears in Acts as a key leader opposing the apostles and the early church in Jerusalem.
