New Testament
Herodias
The wife of Herod Philip and later Herod Antipas who conspired to have John the Baptist executed.
Herodias was a member of the Herodian dynasty who married her uncle, Herod Antipas, in violation of Jewish law. Her resentment toward John the Baptist for condemning this union led her to manipulate her daughter into demanding his head on a platter. Her actions highlight the corrupt influence of the Herodian court and the lethal consequences of confronting royal immorality.
