Old Testament
Meraiah
A priest who served during the time of Joiakim the high priest following the return from Babylonian exile.
Meraiah is listed in Nehemiah 12:12 as a priest and head of a priestly family during the high priesthood of Joiakim. His inclusion in this genealogical record serves to validate the restoration of the temple service and the continuity of the Levitical priesthood after the return from exile. He represents the faithful remnant tasked with maintaining religious order in Jerusalem.
