Old Testament
Besai
A head of a family of temple servants who returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian exile.
Besai was the patriarch of a family of Nethinim, or temple servants, who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel. His name appears in the census records of Ezra 2 and Nehemiah 7, which document the remnant that returned from captivity to rebuild the temple. His inclusion signifies the restoration of the temple ministry and the preservation of the lineage of those dedicated to service in the house of God.
