Mordecai
A Jewish exile in Persia who raised his cousin Esther and saved the Jewish people from Haman's genocidal plot.
Mordecai was a Benjamite official in Susa who refused to bow to Haman, triggering a decree against the Jews. His faithfulness and strategic guidance of Queen Esther led to the deliverance of his people, as recorded in the book of Esther. While the name appears in the lists of returnees in Ezra and Nehemiah, the primary biblical account focuses on his role in the Persian court.
