Old Testament

Gahar

A head of a family of temple servants who returned from the Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel.

Gahar was the patriarch of a family of Nethinim, or temple servants, who returned to Jerusalem from captivity in Babylon. His name appears in the genealogical lists of those who accompanied Zerubbabel, recorded in both Ezra 2 and Nehemiah 7. These lists serve to document the restoration of the covenant community and the re-establishment of temple service.
