Old Testament
Habaiah
A priestly family whose descendants were unable to prove their genealogy after the Babylonian exile.
Habaiah was the head of a priestly family that returned from the Babylonian captivity with Zerubbabel. Because they could not produce their genealogical records to verify their priestly descent, they were excluded from the priesthood as polluted. Their account highlights the importance of lineage and purity in the restoration of the temple service.
