Zechariah
A name shared by several biblical figures, including a post-exilic prophet and the father of John the Baptist.
The name Zechariah refers to multiple individuals in Scripture, most notably the post-exilic prophet who authored the Book of Zechariah and the priest who was the father of John the Baptist. The prophet Zechariah encouraged the rebuilding of the Jerusalem temple through apocalyptic visions of Israel's restoration. The priest Zechariah, serving in the temple, received a divine announcement regarding his son's birth and was struck mute for his initial disbelief.
