Old Testament · Major figure
Asahel
A swift-footed warrior and brother of Joab who was killed by Abner during the civil war between Israel and Judah.
Asahel was one of David's mighty men, noted for his speed like a wild gazelle. During the conflict between the houses of David and Saul, he pursued Abner, the commander of Israel's army, and was killed by Abner's spear in self-defense. The name also appears in later genealogical and administrative records in Chronicles and Ezra, though these likely refer to different individuals.
