Baasha
The third king of the northern Kingdom of Israel who usurped the throne and warred against Judah.
Baasha was the son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar who assassinated King Nadab to seize the throne of Israel. He reigned for twenty-four years in Tirzah, continuing the idolatrous policies of Jeroboam and engaging in constant warfare with King Asa of Judah. The prophet Jehu pronounced judgment upon his house for his persistent evil, leading to the eventual destruction of his dynasty.
