New Testament
Cainan
A descendant of Shem listed in the genealogy of Jesus Christ within the Gospel of Luke.
Cainan is mentioned in Luke 3:36 as the son of Arphaxad and the father of Shelah. He appears exclusively in the Lucan genealogy, which traces the lineage of Jesus back to Adam and God. This Cainan is distinct from the antediluvian Cainan mentioned in the Septuagint version of Genesis 5.
