Old Testament
Eder
A Levite of the family of Merari who served as a temple official during the reign of King David.
Eder is identified in 1 Chronicles 23:23 and 24:30 as a Levite descendant of Merari who served in the divisions of the temple staff. The name also appears in Joshua 15:21 as a city in the extreme southern territory of the tribe of Judah near the border of Edom. These two distinct entities share the same name but represent different biblical contexts, one being a person and the other a geographical location.
