Old Testament · Major figure
Eli
Eli was a high priest and judge of Israel who mentored Samuel and oversaw the tabernacle at Shiloh.
Eli served as the high priest at Shiloh, where he mentored the young prophet Samuel. Though he was a faithful judge, he failed to restrain his wicked sons, Hophni and Phinehas, leading to divine judgment against his house. His death marked the end of his priestly line and the transition toward the establishment of the monarchy in Israel.
