Hamor
A Hivite prince of Shechem who sought an alliance with Jacob's family through his son's marriage.
Hamor was a Hivite leader whose son, Shechem, defiled Jacob's daughter, Dinah. He attempted to negotiate a marriage alliance and economic integration with Jacob's clan, but his proposal led to the treacherous massacre of his people by Simeon and Levi. His name later appears in the Old and New Testaments as a reference to the ancestral land purchase made by Jacob in Shechem.
