Old Testament
Jezaniah
A military leader who remained in Judah after the fall of Jerusalem and later opposed Jeremiah's counsel.
Jezaniah, also known as Jaazaniah, was a military officer who joined Gedaliah at Mizpah following the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem. He is noted for his defiance of the prophet Jeremiah, ultimately rejecting God's command to remain in the land and forcing the remnant to flee to Egypt. His actions highlight the persistent rebellion of the post-exilic leadership against divine instruction.
