A son of Joktan and descendant of Shem listed in the Table of Nations.
Obal is identified in the genealogies of Genesis 10 and 1 Chronicles 1 as one of the thirteen sons of Joktan. As a descendant of Shem, he represents one of the post-Flood family lines that populated the earth. His inclusion serves to document the expansion of the nations following the dispersion at Babel.
