Old Testament
Ur
An ancient Mesopotamian city and the ancestral home of Abram, located in the land of the Chaldeans.
Ur of the Chaldeans is identified in Genesis as the place where Abram was born and where his brother Haran died. It serves as the starting point of the patriarchal journey, representing the pagan environment from which God called Abram to a land of promise. The city is later referenced in Nehemiah as the site from which God chose and brought forth Abram to establish His covenant.
