Old Testament
Goliath
A Philistine giant from Gath who defied the armies of Israel before being defeated by David.
Goliath was a champion of the Philistine army whose immense stature and armor intimidated the Israelites for forty days. His defeat by the young David serves as a central demonstration of God's power over human strength and military might. While 1 Samuel 17 records his famous death, 2 Samuel 21 and 1 Chronicles 20 mention a Goliath of Gath killed by Elhanan, leading some scholars to suggest either two men of the same name or a textual variation.
