Johanan
A Judean military commander who led survivors after the fall of Jerusalem to Babylon.
Johanan son of Kareah was a prominent military leader who sought to protect the remnant of Judah following the destruction of Jerusalem. He famously consulted the prophet Jeremiah regarding whether to remain in the land or flee to Egypt, though he ultimately rejected the divine warning and forced the people to migrate to Egypt. The name Johanan is shared by several other figures in the Old Testament, including a high priest and various returnees from the Babylonian exile.
