Old Testament
Seir
A Horite inhabitant of the land of Seir and a mountainous region east of the Arabah inhabited by his descendants.
Seir the Horite was an early inhabitant of the region later known as Edom, which took his name. The land of Seir became the ancestral territory of Esau and his descendants, serving as a significant geographical and political landmark throughout Israel's history. Scripture frequently uses the name to refer to the rugged mountainous territory occupied by the Edomites.
