Issachar

The ninth son of Jacob and Leah, he became the patriarch of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.

Issachar was born to Leah in Paddan Aram, and his name reflects Leah's belief that God rewarded her for her service. As a tribe, the descendants of Issachar were noted for their understanding of the times and their strategic wisdom in supporting the leadership of David. The tribe received a fertile inheritance in the Jezreel Valley and is listed among the tribes sealed in the book of Revelation.
