Manasseh
The firstborn son of Joseph and progenitor of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Manasseh was the elder son of Joseph and Asenath, born in Egypt. His name reflects Joseph's desire to forget his past hardships, and he became the patriarch of a prominent tribe that received land on both sides of the Jordan River. The name is also famously held by a later king of Judah, whose long, idolatrous reign is recorded in 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles.
