Old Testament

Amalek

The grandson of Esau and progenitor of the Amalekite tribe, a persistent enemy of ancient Israel.

Amalek was the son of Eliphaz and grandson of Esau, serving as the ancestor of the Amalekites. This nomadic tribe became a perennial adversary of Israel, beginning with their unprovoked attack on the Israelites at Rephidim. Their history is defined by divine judgment due to their hostility toward God's people, culminating in the command for their eventual destruction.
