Old Testament
Gemariah
A son of Shaphan who served as a royal official in the court of King Jehoiakim.
Gemariah was a scribe and official who heard Baruch read Jeremiah's scroll. He was among the officials who urged King Jehoiakim not to burn the scroll, demonstrating a level of respect for the prophet's message. He is distinct from the Gemariah who carried a letter from Jeremiah to the exiles in Babylon.
