Old Testament
Ichabod
The son of Phinehas whose name signifies the departure of God's glory from Israel after the Ark was captured.
Ichabod was born to the wife of Phinehas immediately after the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant and killed her husband and father-in-law, Eli. His name, meaning 'no glory,' serves as a prophetic marker of the spiritual decline of the priesthood and the temporary withdrawal of God's manifest presence from Israel. He is mentioned only briefly in Scripture as a symbol of the tragic consequences of the corruption within Eli's house.
