Old Testament · Major figure
Jehu
Anointed king of Israel who executed divine judgment on the house of Ahab and the prophets of Baal.
Jehu was a military commander anointed by a prophet to overthrow King Joram and purge Israel of Baal worship. While he zealously fulfilled God's command to destroy Ahab's dynasty, he failed to depart from the golden calf idolatry established by Jeroboam. His reign is marked by both divine commission and the limits of his own spiritual obedience.
