Old Testament
Anammelech
A pagan deity worshiped by the Sepharvites who were resettled in Samaria by the king of Assyria.
Anammelech is identified in 2 Kings 17:31 as a god of the Sepharvites, a people relocated to Samaria after the fall of the Northern Kingdom. The text notes that these people practiced child sacrifice by fire to Anammelech and Adrammelech. This account serves to illustrate the syncretistic and idolatrous religious practices introduced into the land of Israel by foreign settlers.
