Old Testament
Shalmaneser
An Assyrian king who besieged Samaria and brought the northern kingdom of Israel into vassalage.
Shalmaneser V was the king of Assyria who forced Hoshea, the final king of Israel, to pay tribute. When Hoshea conspired against him, Shalmaneser besieged Samaria for three years, leading to the eventual fall of the northern kingdom. His actions serve as the historical instrument of divine judgment against Israel for their persistent idolatry and disobedience to the Mosaic covenant.
