Dan
The fifth son of Jacob and the patriarch of the Israelite tribe bearing his name.
Dan was the firstborn son of Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's servant. As a tribe, the Danites were known for their military strength and later settled in the northern territory near Laish. The tribe is noted for producing Samson, a judge of Israel, and for their eventual descent into idolatry in the northern kingdom.
