Ephraim

The younger son of Joseph and progenitor of one of the primary tribes of Israel.

Ephraim was the second son of Joseph and Asenath, born in Egypt and blessed by Jacob above his older brother Manasseh. His descendants formed a prominent tribe that became a leading power in the Northern Kingdom of Israel. The name Ephraim is frequently used in the prophetic books as a synonym for the entire Northern Kingdom due to the tribe's political and spiritual influence.
