Both Testaments
Baal
A Canaanite storm and fertility deity whose worship frequently led Israel into idolatry and divine judgment.
Baal was the primary god of the Canaanite pantheon, often associated with rain, thunder, and agricultural prosperity. Throughout the Old Testament, his worship served as the primary rival to the exclusive devotion owed to Yahweh, frequently tempting the Israelites into syncretism. The conflict between Baal and the Lord is most famously highlighted during the ministry of Elijah on Mount Carmel and remains a recurring theme of spiritual apostasy in Israel's history.
