Canaan

The son of Ham and grandson of Noah, whose descendants settled the land later promised to the Israelites.

Canaan was the son of Ham and the progenitor of the Canaanite nations. Following his father's dishonor of Noah, he was cursed to be a servant to his brothers, a prophecy fulfilled as his descendants were eventually displaced by the Israelites. His name became synonymous with the Promised Land, which served as the central geographical setting for the history of God's covenant people.
